How to Activate an Apple Gift Card
Step 1: open the App Store
On iPhone or iPad, launch the App Store and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner. On macOS, open the App Store and choose "Redeem Gift Card" from the menu bar.
Step 2: tap "Redeem Gift Card or Code"
Scroll down on the profile screen until you see this option. Apple gives you two choices: scan a physical card with the camera, or enter the code manually. Codes from Kodshop come as text, so use manual entry.
Step 3: enter the code
The code from your email is 16 Latin characters. Type it without spaces or dashes, then tap "Redeem". The balance lands on your Apple ID instantly and shows up in your account settings.
What the balance covers
Apple ID balance is universal credit inside Apple's digital world. It pays for Apple Music, iCloud+, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+ subscriptions. It also works for App Store apps and games, in-app purchases, movies, books, and audiobooks in iTunes and Apple Books.
What it does not cover: physical Apple devices, accessories, AppleCare, anything you'd buy from the Apple Store (a different store, not the App Store).
When the code is rejected
The most common cause is a region mismatch. A US Apple Gift Card only works on a US Apple ID. Check your region in Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.
If regions match but Apple says "Code already redeemed", check your balance first. Sometimes the code redeems before the error message appears.
For any other error, sign out of Apple ID, restart the device, sign back in, and retry. That fixes the problem nine times out of ten.
