FAQ
Do I need to activate my Japan eSIM before I arrive in Japan?
Yes. Install and activate your eSIM QR code before you depart — it requires internet to download. Once the profile is installed, it will activate automatically upon arrival when your phone connects to a local network.
Will my phone work with a Japan eSIM?
Most recent iPhones (XS and newer), Google Pixels (3a and newer), and Samsung Galaxy S20+/Note20+ models support eSIM. Check your phone's IMEI or settings for eSIM compatibility before buying — older models or carrier-locked devices may not work.
Do I need to turn on data roaming for data roaming?
Yes. On arrival in Japan, go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data, select your Japan eSIM line, and toggle Data Roaming ON. This is required for the eSIM to connect to local networks — it does not incur extra charges.
Can I keep my home SIM active at the same time?
Yes. Your phone can use Dual SIM: keep your home SIM for calls/texts (with roaming off to avoid fees) and set the Japan eSIM as your primary data line. Disable iMessage/Facetime on your home SIM switching to avoid SMS charges.
What happens if I run out of data while travelling?
Top-ups are available directly from your KodShop account or via the eSIM provider's portal. Most plans offer additional data packages that activate immediately — no need to buy a new eSIM. Check your plan's validity period before adding data before departure.
